VM Survey: Symptoms

How is the condition manifested

The results show a range of different symptoms from respondents. It is clear that the experience of having vestibular migraine varies considerably across the population.

It may be worth mapping symptoms against other responses related to treatments in order to find patterns that may lead to better management of the condition.

Strong dizziness and headaches

Of all the symptoms reported, spinning dizziness and headaches were most likely to be reported as 'strong'

Frequent brain fog

Of those experiencing 'brain fog', 73% report it as 'frequent'

No aura experienced

Aura was the least experienced of the symptoms surveyed, and most likely to be reported as occasional and mild

Every symptom

More than 1 in 4 of the respondents had experienced all of the symptoms surveyed

Tension headache

Nearly half of the respondents had a suspected or confirmed case of tension headaches

Digestive disorder

Nearly a third of respondents had a confirmed or suspected digestive disorder

Symptom prevalence

More fog, less aura

The reporting rates of the various symptoms surveyed revealed that brain fog was the most widely reported of all the symptoms, while the least reported, aura, still being experienced by nearly 3 in 5 respondents.

Respondents were asked about the general pattern of their condition. More than half said that their symptoms varied from day to day and amplified by known triggers
